Who we are
Mental Health Centre “Adaptacia” has been founded in the summer of 2001 by four psychiatrists. These were Reader Dr Toma Tomov, Dr Nikolay Mihailov, Dr Irina Lazarova and Dr Vladimir Sotirov. “Adaptacia” was registered according to the law on June 21st 2001. “Adaptacia” is also registered in Regional Healthcare Centre – Sofia, according the Therapeutic Establishments Act, as "specialized outpatient psychiatric medical treatment group practice"; its registration number is 2204123504.
The Mission
We have established “Adaptacia” to provide high quality specialized outpatient psychiatric help, including counseling, medical treatment, rehabilitation and care to these, who need it, in order to recover, strengthen and improve their mental health. We strive to deliver help while respecting human dignity, guaranteeing confidentiality and respecting the right for free choice. By help we mean decreasing of psychological distress, as well as lessening of risks, accompanying mental suffering and illness. These risks include: traumatic experience of guilt, shame and/or fear of being abandoned, discrimination and devaluation, isolation, dependency, damaged social functioning, putting a burden on the family and emotional burnout of relatives, lessened working capacity and decreased quality.
Who is “Adaptacia” for?
The staff of “Adaptacia” is qualified to provide specialized mental health treatment to people, suffering from mental disorders, like depression, various types of uneasiness, fear and anxiety (phobias, panic attacks, etc.), obsessions (obsessive-compulsive disorder), states of crisis and emotional stress, disorders of social functioning and of adaptation to meaningful life changes, etc. The team of “Adaptacia” offers also programs to patients with chronic psychoses, like schizophrenia, schizoaffective psychosis and manic-depressive psychosis (bipolar affective disorder). These services include making diagnosis and offering treatment and social rehabilitation and integration to early-adulthood and middle-age patients, suffering from above mentioned disorders.
Who is NOT “Adaptacia” for!
At this stage “Adaptacia” has not developed programs for substance and alcohol abuse, developmental disabilities, and child psychoses. The team of “Adaptacia” has not developed programs in a field of emergency psychiatric help too, as well as programs for treatment of patients with asocial personality disorder. The team of “Adaptacia” believes that because of their importance and specificity, these target groups require programs, developed by other, narrowly specialized services.
